Brazil’s Covid-19 case numbers surpass Italy and Spain as Bolsonaro plays down pandemic

The total number of Covid-19 cases in Brazil has overtaken the figures reported by Spain and Italy. As of May 17, 2020, Brazil had confirmed 233,648 coronavirus infections and 15,668 deaths. Only the US, Russia and the UK have higher case totals so far.
