Myanmar’s crippled health care system buckles under worsening third coronavirus wave

A devastating third wave of Covid-19 infections has been sweeping across Myanmar since July 2021. The country reported 34 consecutive days of more than 3,000 daily cases as of August 8. Its health care system, decimated following the February military coup, is struggling to cope with the latest surge. Medical workers have been targeted by the government after spearheading a civil disobedience movement against the coup.
