China’s Jilin province remains Covid-19 epicentre of country’s latest pandemic wave
China’s northeastern province of Jilin is still trying to contain a serious outbreak of Covid-19, with infections in the province accounting for 90 per cent of the country’s 2,010 locally transmitted cases on March 23, 2022. Most of them were reported in the provincial capital Changchun, which saw 1,280 locally transmitted cases. The province is one of the hardest-hit regions in China’s current wave, with soaring infections for nearly a week. Beijing has deployed inspection teams to 10 areas to ensure local governments stick to its “dynamic zero-Covid” strategy. However, Chinese health experts say maintaining a normal life is just as important as achieving “dynamic zero-Covid”.
