First COP26 pledge: world leaders agree to end deforestation by 2030

More than 100 world leaders meeting at COP26 currently have pledged to end deforestation by 2030. The agreement, signed on November 2, 2021, is the first major deal reached at the UN Climate Change Conference currently under way in Glasgow, Scotland. Among the 100 countries making the pledge are Russia, Brazil, Colombia, Indonesia, which together represent over 85 per cent of the planet’s forests.
