The Hong Kong and Shenzhen governments have announced a planned innovation and technology park in the Lok Ma Chau loop
The 88 hectare ‘loop’ of land was formed when the Shenzhen River was straightened in 1997 but has remained vacant and is now part of an ecosystem which includes rare fish, migratory birds and butterflies.
Environmentalists are warning of an ‘ecological disaster’ if the planned development goes ahead.
