Transitional care centre gives elderly a leg-up

Shanshan Kao

Lively Elderly Day Training Centre is a self-financing transitional care centre aimed to equip elderly people to return to the community after months of treatment.

About 40 elderly patients exercise and receive care at the centre under the guidance of around 20 staff members, including physiotherapists and registered nurses.

Tong Choi-ying, programme director of the centre, hoped the government would increase subsidies for transitional day care, as she believed eventually such services could help the city lower its acute demand for elderly residential care services.
