In leaked audio recording, Hong Kong leader Carrie Lam appears to say she would quit if given a choice

Hong Kong’s embattled leader Carrie Lam said she caused “unforgivable havoc” by sparking a political crisis and reportedly indicates she would step down if given a choice, according to a leaked audio recording. 

The recording, published by Reuters on September 2, 2019, reportedly captured remarks Lam made at a closed-door meeting with business leaders a week earlier.

The day following the release of the recording, Lam insisted she had never offered to resign.
