‘We cannot have our cake and eat it’, says former Hong Kong leader CY Leung

Hong Kong’s former leader, CY Leung, says the city cannot expect the office of chief executive to enjoy powers granted by Beijing, yet disregard the central government’s role in selecting a candidate, saying “we cannot have our cake and eat it”.
In a video released on pro-establishment website Speak Out HK on February 25, 2021, Leung compared the role of chief executive with that of the mayor of London, saying even the British do not grant their elected local governments a high degree of autonomy.
