Electoral overhaul the ’death of democracy’ for Hong Kong, says fugitive former lawmaker Ted Hui

Former Hong Kong opposition lawmaker Ted Hui Chi-fung described a move by the Chinese central government to overhaul the city’s electoral system as the "death of democracy" for the former British colony. Hui was speaking in an interview with the Australian Broadcasting Corporation. He had been in the UK since he fled Hong Kong where he faces criminal charges, before relocating to Australia. He says he is trying to secure broader democracy for the city by working from abroad to support Hong Kong activists.
