Massive fire in Hong Kong’s Aberdeen typhoon shelter damages more than 30 boats

A fire broke out in southern Hong Kong’s Aberdeen South Typhoon Shelter at 2.34am on June 27, 2021, and quickly spread to a number of vessels. The fire’s status was later upgraded to alarm No 3 – on a scale of one to five, with five being the most severe. One person was sent to hospital, and more than 30 boats were damaged. Twenty-two men and 13 women were evacuated to a nearby marine police base. In the operation, firemen used 11 fire boat monitors, eight jets, and mobilised four breathing apparatus teams to fight the blaze. The marine department will continue the clean up by removing floating debris from surrounding waters.
