Hong Kong consumer watchdog: be careful about purchases through e-consumption voucher scheme

Denise Tsang

Hong Kong Consumer Council Chief Executive Gilly Wong has sounded a warning about a rise in disputes between customers and local businesses as the city’s post-Covid-19 economic recovery gets under way.  In an exclusive interview with the South China Morning Post on July 8, 2021, Wong said the consumer watchdog expects complaints against online shopping platforms to grow, along with disputes related to in-flight services and mileage redemption as international travel resumes. With Hong Kong residents due to receive the HK$5,000 government consumption vouchers in August 2021, Wong urged consumers to closely check the terms and conditions of purchases and their choice of payment system service providers, amid complaints against some telecoms companies.
