‘There was no comprehensive plan’: Hong Kong nurse on outdoor hospital wards amid Covid surge
A health care worker in Hong Kong has recounted the chaos and confusion he saw at local hospitals as patients were seen waiting outside because of a shortage of wards to accommodate Covid-19 patients. David Chan, a nurse and the Chairman of the Hospital Authority Employees Alliance, said a lack of clear messaging from the government left public hospitals – which were already at near capacity – struggling to house patients during the February 15-18, 2022, period. Recent support from mainland Chinese health workers are among some measures the government has requested to avoid putting too much pressure on the city’s health care system.
