A Hong Kong appellate court has banned the distribution of a protest song that became popular during the 2019 anti-government unrest in the city. The May 8, 2024, decision quashed an earlier judgment and ruled in favour of Justice Secretary Paul Lam, who sought an interim injunction against “Glory to Hong Kong” in 2023. Hong Kong Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu welcomed the ruling, while China's foreign ministry described the ban as a “legitimate and necessary” measure to protect the state.
