Hong Kong police have arrested a 32-year-old woman on suspicion of conspiring to lure two people to Southeast Asian countries to conduct scams. The force revealed on January 15, 2025, that the two alleged victims, both women, had returned to Hong Kong, while the suspect was arrested on suspicion of conspiring to defraud. The arrest came after Hong Kong sent a task force to Thailand to help secure the release of 12 stranded Hong Kong residents said to be forced to work at scam centres in neighbouring Myanmar and Cambodia.
