Researchers at the Chinese University of Hong Kong have found a link between a significant rise in Hong Kong infant eczema cases and pandemic cleaning habits. Their study found that “excessive” cleaning practices during the Covid-19 pandemic probably caused a 46 per cent increase in eczema cases among infants in Hong Kong. Professor Leung Ting-fan, from the Chinese University of Hong Kong’s Faculty of Medicine, spoke with the Post about how the rise in the number of babies suffering from the skin is related to lower bacterial immunity in young patients.
