Natalie WongandNick Dearman

Jose-Antonio Maurellet spoke with the Post for his first interview with an English-language media outlet since he was elected new chairman of the Hong Kong Bar Association on January 23, 2025. Maurellet, a Hong Kong-born Eurasian who can speak English, Cantonese and French, discussed uncertainties surrounding US President Donald Trump's return to the White House. The incoming chairman also said judicial associations around the world should join hands to oppose Washington’s potential punitive measures against judges and prosecutors. Maurellet also said any form of interference in legal and judicial processes would undermine the administration of justice.
