An outdoor sitting area that had become a makeshift altar for victims of Hong Kong’s deadliest fire in seven decades was cleared by night time clean-up crews on December 7, 2025. But the following day, people wishing to pay their respects found a new memorial site in a hedge about 50 metres away. Thousands of people have visited the area near Wang Fuk Court, leaving flowers, trinkets and handwritten messages. The fire, which started on November 26, engulfed seven of the eight blocks at the residential estate, killing nearly 160 people.
