Villagers forced out of ancestral homes over Northern Metropolis megaproject in Hong Kong
Chan Ho-yee’s family home sits within the Hung Shui Kiu/Ha Tsuen New Development Area, which the government plans to turn into a high-end service and logistics hub for the city.
Village resident Chan Ho-yee was told by Hong Kong authorities on May 7, 2026, that she had less than a week to leave her ancestral home at Tin Sam Tsuen in the New Territories. The Chan family home sits within a new development area under the government’s Northern Metropolis megaproject. Although the eviction was postponed a few days later, Chan knows it is only a matter of time before she receives a new eviction demand.
