Covid-19 roadblocks lengthen commute times for satellite city residents working in Beijing

Since the Covid-19 outbreak began two years ago, the Chinese capital Beijing has been requiring commuters from satellite cities to present negative test results at checkpoints to enter the city. As Beijing prepares to host the Winter Olympics in February 2022, an outbreak of the Omicron variant in nearby Tianjin has added to fears about a possible outbreak at the Games. Determined to press ahead, officials however are taking extra precautions.
