Residents in Beijing satellite city protest against Covid rules limiting acess to Chinese capital
Residents in the Beijing satellite city of Yanjiao clashed with police at a checkpoint leading to the capital on June 1, 2022. They were protesting against being barred from returning to work in Beijing, even though Covid-19 restrictions had been eased two days earlier. About 400,000 people from Hebei province hold jobs in Beijing, but most have been told to work from home after a wave of fresh Covid-19 infections hit China in the spring. These images were shared with the South China Morning Post by people who recorded the events, and asked not to be identified because of concerns about their safety.
