History-making Chinese athlete fulfils grandmother’s Olympic dream
Heptathlete Zheng Ninali has made history at the Tokyo Olympics, where she became China’s first naturalised Olympian and fulfilled her grandmother’s Olympic dream. The Commonwealth Games silver medallist, previously known as Nina Schultz, used to compete for Canada before becoming a Chinese citizen. Her grandmother Zheng Fengrong was the first Chinese athlete to break a world record when she cleared 1.77 metres in the high jump in 1957. Meanwhile a 12-year-old has won a silver medal at the skatepark. Post sports reporter Jonathan White unpacks the excitement from day 12 of the Games with Alkira Reinfrank.
