Timeless Iraqi village isolated from the world survives on herding and farming

Erika Na

Al-Sahl is a century-old village near the western Iraqi desert that is located around 250 kilometres (155 miles) northwest of the capital Baghdad.  The isolated village is  self-sufficient despite lacking electricity and water supply, as well as medical and secondary school services. Largely cut off from the rest of the world, it has sustained itself through sheep-herding and farming.
