Putin orders ‘demilitarisation and denazification of Ukraine’, demands Ukrainian forces surrender

In the early hours of February 24, 2022, Russian President Vladimir Putin authorised a special military operation in the Donbas region of Ukraine. In a televised address on Russian state television, Putin said Russia had been left with no choice but to defend itself and told Ukrainian military forces to surrender.
