Afghanistan’s Taliban authorities have released hundreds of men who had been held at a drug rehabilitation centre in the capital Kabul. The country had long been notorious for drug production and abuse. But since the militant group seized power in August 2021, authorities have mounted an aggressive campaign to eradicate drug addiction, rounding up thousands of men in recent months and forcing into drug abuse treatment centres.
