Indonesian flood survivor revisits site where his house once stood
Separate weather systems brought torrential, extended rainfall to the entire island of Sri Lanka and large parts of Indonesia’s Sumatra, southern Thailand and northern Malaysia in late November 2025.
An Indonesian man has returned to view what is left of his house after a deadly flood swept him away while he was in the structure. He is among the survivors of deadly flooding and landslides across parts of Asia, where the death toll climbed past 1,000 on December 1, 2025. Indonesia and Sri Lanka are among the hardest-hit nations. Much of the region is currently in the monsoon season, but climate change has produced more extreme rain events and turbocharged the usual storms.
