South Korean police are pushing for the extradition of a former Philippine ambassador to South Korea over alleged sexual abuse, and have sought the help of Interpol to seek the location and arrest of Noe Albano Wong, 69.

Wong faces accusations that he molested a woman in her early 30s by allegedly hugging her from behind without her consent in December last year, police said on Monday.

A senior detective at the Seoul police agency told This Week in Asia that police had issued an Interpol Red Notice – which goes out to 190 Interpol member countries to say a person is wanted based on an arrest warrant – in May.

This was with a view to having him extradited from the Philippines to South Korea so charges could be filed against him, the detective said. He added that it was up to Manila to extradite him.

The Philippine embassy in Seoul said it received a complaint about sexual harassment in February when the ambassador was in Manila on official business. It did not identify the ambassador by name.
