A South Korean surgeon will stand trial accused of breaching medical laws and the manslaughter of the Hong Kong textile fortune heiress Bonnie Evita Law, who died while undergoing liposuction and breast augmentation procedures in Seoul last year.
Law, whose late grandfather Law Ting-pong built a billion-dollar fashion empire, died in January last year at the age of 34 during an operation allegedly arranged by an illegal agent in South Korea.

Prosecutors brought manslaughter and other criminal charges against the surgeon, accusing him of conducting operations without the presence of anaesthetists, accepting patients from abroad without registering with authorities and failing to draw up proper medical documents concerning the operations, SBS-TV and other local news outlets reported.

A staff member of the clinic was also indicted on charges of falsifying a patient’s written consent for the surgery.

Law’s widower, Danny Chi, had previously filed a lawsuit on behalf of the family against the Ollim Plastic Surgery dermatological clinic, two of its doctors and a nurse for alleged manslaughter and forging pre-surgery documents.

He withdrew it when South Korean authorities confirmed they would pursue charges in the case.
