A dispute over inheritance drove a Malaysian man to murder his mother and dump her mutilated body in a sewage tank at their house in Perak state’s Parit Buntar town, police said after an autopsy revealed she died of multiple cuts and incised wounds.

The suspect, 42, was arrested last Saturday after the body parts were discovered by police following a complaint of a foul stench from the neighbours.

“The victim’s body had been cut into 15 parts including the head, hand, legs, and other bodily organs,” Perak police chief Mior Faridalathrash Wahid told local media on Sunday.

Mior Faridalathrash said police also seized a machete, two knives and other items believed to have been used by the man to commit the alleged murder after he became annoyed over the division of his late father’s estate.

He added the suspect, who was suffering from mental health problems, lived with his mother in the house for the past 12 years after her husband died.
