A dispute over inheritance drove a Malaysian man to murder his mother and dump her mutilated body in a sewage tank at their house in Perak state’s Parit Buntar town, police said after an autopsy revealed she died of multiple cuts and incised wounds.
The suspect, 42, was arrested last Saturday after the body parts were discovered by police following a complaint of a foul stench from the neighbours.
“The victim’s body had been cut into 15 parts including the head, hand, legs, and other bodily organs,” Perak police chief Mior Faridalathrash Wahid told local media on Sunday.
Mior Faridalathrash said police also seized a machete, two knives and other items believed to have been used by the man to commit the alleged murder after he became annoyed over the division of his late father’s estate.
He added the suspect, who was suffering from mental health problems, lived with his mother in the house for the past 12 years after her husband died.
Earlier, police said the woman’s daughter filed a missing-person report in late May after she failed to contact her, and the suspect said their mother, 68, had left home and had yet to return.
They also recovered the heads of the victims, aged 27 and 11, in the attic. The man stabbed his wife to death with a kitchen knife following an argument. He also killed his son who witnessed the act. The suspect later decapitated their bodies with a machete and discarded them at two locations.
Six years ago, an unemployed man was arrested for the murder of his girlfriend’s two-year-old son whose decomposed body was found stuffed inside a cooler box at their flat in Kedah state’s Sungai Petani.
Police, who went to the house after receiving a call from a neighbour about a family quarrel, said the child was wrapped in a blanket and died from physical abuse.
The man also abused the victim’s four-year-old sister, who needed medical treatment for head injuries. He was later charged with the boy’s murder.
