South Korean conglomerate Shinsegae Group has refuted rumours that the granddaughter of the company’s chairwoman Lee Myung-hee was in a romantic relationship with K-pop superstar G-Dragon.
The retail giant broke its silence on the controversy and sought to “correct the wrong information” after some Chinese entertainment websites reported that the BigBang member and the Shinsegae heiress were dating, adding the pair had attended a concert in Seoul together.
“It is absolutely not true,” Yonhap quoted a Shinsegae official as saying of the gossip. “We are offering an official statement to correct the wrong information following a string of indiscriminate and speculative reports.”
The official also said the duo went to the show, but with a group of people and the woman shared a photo she took with G-Dragon as she was his “fan”.
G-Dragon, whose real name is Kwon Ji-yong, made his debut as the leader of the five-member band BigBang in 2006. The group’s other singers are Taeyang, Daesung, T.O.P. and Seungri, who left in 2019 after he was ensnared in a drugs and sex scandal.
G-Dragon’s followers said on social media that the two were long-time close friends and lamented the spotlight on the singer’s personal life.
“Just let them be and hang out together peaceful without the need for Shinsegae to give an explanation,” one user said.
