Thai police launch manhunt for delivery rider who robbed gold store
Surveillance footage shows suspect intimidating staff and customers with a pistol before making off with US$137,600 worth of gold necklaces
Police in Thailand have launched a manhunt for a suspect who robbed a gold store in the country’s northwestern city of Mae Sot while dressed as a delivery rider.
The suspect, described as a slim man in his thirties and about 1.7 metres tall, made off with 4.7 million baht (US$137,600) worth of gold necklaces weighing about 1.5kg from the store on Sunday evening, local reports said.
In a surveillance camera clip circulating on Thai social media, the suspect approached the shop and intimidated patrons and staff with a pistol.
The clip shows the man dressed in a delivery rider uniform with a full-face helmet and a pair of black gloves.
As others screamed and fled, he jumped over the counter and grabbed the gold necklaces on display to put into his backpack. He finished the robbery in about a minute.
Another clip showed him leaving the Lotus shopping centre, where the gold store was located, on a white motorbike.
