Malaysian police on Thursday confirmed that a body found at a construction site in an affluent suburb near the capital city of Kuala Lumpur was that of a British backpacker who had gone missing for more than a week.

The decomposing body of Jordan Johnson-Doyle was found by a search team on Wednesday afternoon at the bottom of a flooded lift shaft at the site, lying face down with most of its clothes off.

Kuala Lumpur police said the cause of death was a chest injury due to a fall.

“There were no criminal elements found at the incident site,” city police chief Rusdi Mohd Isa said in a statement on Thursday, adding that the case had been classified as sudden death.

Johnson-Doyle was positively identified by his uncle based on a tattoo on his body, Rusdi said.
