In South Korea, right-wing YouTube viewers more likely to support Yoon Suk-yeol: poll
About 68 per cent of those who watch conservative YouTube content for at least an hour per day say Yoon’s martial law decree is justified
Consumption of far-right content on YouTube in South Korea has a strong correlation with support for impeached president Yoon Suk-yeol and his short-lived martial law decree, a recent survey has found.
Respondents who on average consumed at least one hour of political content by conservative YouTubers showed a significantly higher level of support for Yoon than others, the survey revealed.
The study was jointly conducted by South Korean current affairs journal SisaIn and public opinion poll firm Hankook Research.
“This survey confirmed that their political and social awareness is far from the common sense of the majority of citizens,” SisaIn wrote in a report announcing the survey results on Monday.
The survey, which polled 2,000 respondents earlier this month, showed 68 per cent of those who consumed conservative YouTube content for at least an hour per day believed Yoon’s declaration of martial law on December 3 was justified.
In comparison, only 18 per cent of all respondents held the same idea, while 73 per cent opposed the decree.
