Kary Ng's first EP Keep Breathing is full of soft melodies, and none of the more uptempo numbers of her past albums.

First plug Here We Are has no surprises and offers nothing new when compared to Ng's past love songs. But there's no denying Ng's beautiful voice does justice to the song.

Another highlight is the title track, which Ng composed herself. The melody is very enjoyable, and surprisingly impressive for an amateur composer.

Ng is best known for singing rock and pop, but on this EP she proves she has an exceptional voice better suited to the slow, soft songs here.

Her voice has also matured: she is no longer the little girl who first made a name for herself as a member of girl band Cookies. She has learned how to convey emotion through her voice and touch people with her songs and melodies.

Ng has said that she wanted to encourage people facing difficult times with this EP, and to an extent that works. It's a relaxing collection of songs. But with so few tracks, it feels a bit repetitive after multiple listenings.

It's a shame this is not a full album, as Ng's voice is very pleasant. But at least it's a promising sign of what's yet to come.
