Poise Coffee
Shop No. 3, St Stephen’s Lane No.1-2 Golden Phoenix Court Sai Ying Pun
Instagram: @poisecoffeehk
Grub: Authentic cafe foods, with a special focus on avocado toast.
Vibe: Relaxing and leisurely. The spacious indoor area is decorated with a creamy palate and floor-to-ceiling glass walls that compliment the minimalist design and add to the study-friendly feel.
Poise keeps it simple both indoors and outdoors. There’s plenty of space outside for four-legged friends, and tables where you can sit people-watching on a lazy Sunday afternoon.
There’s no excess decoration, furnishings or colour, making it a great place for when you really need to concentrate.
Who to take: Keep it small to enjoy quality time chatting in a quiet, calm atmosphere. Having just one or two close friends means more time to take pictures and mindfully savour the food.
This is also good to visit alone, because, as we mentioned, it’s a great place to concentrate and get work done. Maybe you’ve been putting off an essay, or there is a project you’ve been struggling to finish – go to Poise and hammer it out.
Sap Sann cafe in Sham Shui Po is an Instagram dream
It doesn’t all have to be work though! Bring a book and have some relaxing, high-quality me time.
What’s hot: The eatery offers typical cafe fare and specialises in avocado toast, offering combinations like avocado and chicken, or smoked salmon and guacamole.
The food is good; the puppy viewing opportunities are AMAZING.They also offer pastries such as banana bread, croissants and carrot cakes. If you’re not craving carbs, check out the delicious avocado and smoked salmon salad.
As for coffee, there are all the basics you’d hope for, but if you’re in the mood for something sweet, try the Nutella Latte, a sweet treat that breaks the rules by mixing Nutella straight into the coffee.
Worried about the Wi-fi? No need — it’s strong, secure, and available all day.
What’s not: While, as a dog-friendly, work-friendly space with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, loads of food options and strong Wi-fi, Poise is almost unbeatable, it’s not perfect: there are no sockets. Make sure your laptop and phone are charged before you leave home. The prices are also a bit on the high side for students or anyone on a budget.
Cost: Toast and sandwiches are HK$68-HK$88; the all-day breakfast is HK$128; salads and light toasts are HK$45-HK$68; seasonal cakes are HK$55; drinks are HK$30-HK$48.
