Ele Fountain’s ‘Lost’: a powerful tale of survival

Otaku madness comes to Hong Kong next weekend. The annual Anime, Comic and Game Hong Kong convention (ACGHK), usually referred to as Ani-Con for short, takes place from July 29 to August2 at the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre.

The annual event is a great chance for otaku to get together to see what's new in the world of anime, manga, and video games. Cool merchandise on sale will include pins and keychains of favourite characters, giant samurai swords and light sabres.

Every year's Ani-Con features several big events: manga and comic book artists hold signing events, while variety acts, that include dancing, cosplay shows and mini concerts by Anisong artists from Japan, are performed.

Each year the organisers of Ani-Con hold various competitions, and this year is no different. First up is the Hong Kong Figure Design Competition, where budding designers can showcase their talents for action-figure design. This year's theme encourages participants to design their own "Childhood Hero".

Amateur and professional artists with dreams of becoming comic book illustrators can enter the Hong Kong Comics New Star Competition.

Music lovers can watch the annual HeartBeat Band Sound competition, with local "garage" bands vying to win the nightly "Battle of the Bands" contest.

In addition, guest artists from Japan and Hong Kong will perform out of competition, including Nakajima Megumi, Wakeshima Kanon, FNS, Fudanjuku, Tokyo Brass Style, ViViD, Wildchild and Sugar Club.
