It’s sort of surprising it’s taken this long, but fried chicken chain KFC is suspending one of fast food’s most popular slogans.

The company said in a press release that using the 64-year-old “It’s finger-licking good” slogan during the pandemic “doesn’t feel quite right”.

The company released a video to support its message.

“We find ourselves in a unique situation -- having an iconic slogan that doesn’t quite fit in the current environment,” said Catherine Tan-Gillespie, global chief marketing officer at KFC, in a statement. “While we are pausing the use of It’s Finger Lickin’ Good, rest assured the food craved by so many people around the world isn’t changing one bit.”

One of the key pieces of advice for avoiding spreading the coronavirus from bodies such as the World Health Organisation is to avoid touching your mouth, nose and eyes, and wash your hands frequently. Licking the chickeny goodness from your mitts, especially when you’re not at home, is a bad idea.
