Hong Kong’s education minister Kevin Yeung Yun-hung said meetings will be held with schools in the next few days to discuss details about increasing the proportion of face-to-face lessons after the Chinese New Year holiday.

Classes would still be kept to a half-day at most to prevent students from having lunch at school.

The city’s health officials made the announcement during a press conference on Monday, when they also revealed new, aggressive testing policies.

Just one untraceable coronavirus infection in a residential building, or two of any kind in a workplace, will trigger compulsory testing orders for everyone on the premises.

Buildings in Kowloon likely areas for lockdowns

The same rule applies to buildings where sewage samples contain positive traces of the virus.

The government said it was aiming for one lockdown a day in various districts, targeting areas with more cases and poor-quality buildings.

The new approach is part of the government’s goal to cut down on the number of daily cases by Chinese New Year.

Yeung said more information should be announced about in-person lessons this coming week.
