Contestant 1
Our most common white lie: “I’m OK”.
When asked how we are, sometimes, even if we are not feeling OK or there is a host of chaotic misfortunes plaguing us and we long for help, we still tend to automatically reply with this stock answer, “I’m OK”.
It’s true that we don’t want to bother our loved ones and cause them to worry. That’s why we tend to put forward this white lie and bottle up our feelings. However, deep down, it hurts, especially when we are on the verge of a mental breakdown.
If we could make the white lie “I’m OK” come true, we could magically fix our mental issues ourselves. By being titans of our emotions, we will always feel good and we won’t have to burden our loved ones with our problems or worries. I wonder how it would feel to always be in high spirits!
Contestant 2
That Peter Pan exists. When I was a child, my parents “lied” to me that children never grow up. I vividly remember bursting into tears because I wanted to be a grown-up and experience the most exciting things, such as finding a dream job, travelling around the world, and meeting the love of my life! I was also eager to be one of the adults that I saw on television who had the financial ability to put anything they wanted in their shopping trolley.
However, the reality is cruel. Living in this modern world, we know that Peter Pan is just a fairy tale. As a teenager, I face immense academic pressure and interpersonal relationship issues. How I wish this lie were true. I could then live in a world of perpetual childhood, not having to worry about all the pressure and escaping from my stressors!
The older I get, the more I see how tiring being a grown-up is. Seeing the bills my parents have to pay and how weary they are when they come home makes me realise that being an adult is not all rosy.
Contestant 3
If I could make a lie come true, it would unquestionably be the lie that people live forever; more specifically, the people closest to me.
Throughout my childhood, and even now, I have found it impossible to escape my everlasting thoughts about death. Each hug we have with our parents, each laugh with friends and each cry with siblings will one day be the last when that heart, which means the world to us, stops beating. I get knots in my stomach knowing that someday they will all be gone.
Even though overpopulation would eventually pose a problem, I would still wish for people to live forever in some way. With these loved ones, I will never have to fake a laugh, never have to hide my problems, and never get bored.
Contestant 4
“Did you know that I can fly like Superman and move heavy objects? I’m a superhero!” The six-year-old version of me would tell everyone this innocent lie, in the hopes that someone would believe me. Who wouldn’t want superhuman abilities?
Just like what I saw in films, I aspired to be the hero everyone credited for saving the world. I wanted to be exceptional in a way that no one could have imagined. I really wish this lie came true because everyone has an idol at some point in their life, and if I could be that person for someone else – being someone’s role model the way superheroes were for me growing up – I would be over the moon.
Along with that, I’d like to experience what it would be like to hover above a metropolis while taking in the beauty of the skyline or a mountain range, or perhaps get a snack from my kitchen without having to get up from my couch.
Contestant 5
I would tell my classmates that my father is Li Ka-shing, one of the wealthiest people in the world. With unlimited money, I could buy anything my heart desires, such as a racing car or a helicopter to travel the world in style and live in luxurious hotels. I could indulge in the finest delicacies, such as white truffles, caviar and foie gras, and dine at Michelin-starred restaurants.
Unlimited wealth would grant me access to experiences that most people can only dream of. I would have the opportunity to broaden my horizons, knowing that failure would not be a concern. I would be able to travel the world and immerse myself in different cultures and cuisines, enriching my life.
Money would also provide me with the means to collect rare items, which I could showcase in a super-gorgeous mansion with workers to attend to my every need. I would have more time to do what I love and not be bogged down by repetitive tasks.
