I wish there was new technology that would allow people to exchange their feelings, as people these days tend to say things without considering other peoples’ feelings. If we had a way to instantly know the true feelings of someone else, I think the world would be more peaceful.

I would like someone to create a machine that can clean up an oil spill in the blink of an eye. There have been many oil spills in the past, and they can be very harmful to sea creatures, birds, and the environment.

I think someone should invent a phone that can be controlled with our minds. It would be cool if I could play my favourite mobile game without having to lift a finger.

I hope I can replace my school bag in the new year with an electronic backpack that would be able to pack itself so that I would never forget any important things at home again.

I’d like to see in a device in shops that allows people to breathe freely underwater, such as artificial gills. Divers could use them instead of heavy equipment. It would be amazing if we could swim under the sea for hours like a mermaid.

I wish there was a machine to help students relax, because most of us are really stressed. These days we hardly have time to rest or do what we want, so it would be nice to have something that could instantly relax us.

Forget flying cars! I hope the new year will bring technology that allows people to fly everywhere so we wouldn’t have to walk any more. That would be amazing!

It would be good if we had a device that could measure the nutrition of any food, so we could make sure we are eating healthily in the new year.

Face off: Does artificial intelligence do more good than harm to mankind?

It would be awesome if people were able to teleport by the end of the new year. So much time is wasted travelling from place to place. If we could teleport to different countries, I could do more things there. I could also sleep longer if I could just teleport to school!

Ho Shing-chun, 12, Maryknoll Fathers’ School

I hope someone will invent a robot to help teachers pass out books and correct student’s homework, so that they can focus on teaching the class. It would be good if the robot could also help the janitors keep the classrooms clean.
