Ovolo brings a touch Japanese to the heart of Central with its KplusK-designed boutique hotel

Ovolo Group is venturing beyond serviced apartments and has just opened its latest boutique hotel at 286 Queen's Road Central. The hotel, in Sheung Wan and named after its address, is the result of a renovation of serviced apartments owned by the group.

Designed by local firm KplusK Associates, the 60-room hotel officially opened on Monday and has a modern Japanese feel. The design is minimalist, with chic details such as horsehair carpet, a pebble-stone floor, textured white walls and Japanese paper-cut lamps.

'There're a few things that we're looking to do with this property. It's in the heart of Central - just a little bit away - so people are able to get easily not only to the IFC for business, but also to SoHo and Lan Kwai Fong for the nightlife,' director of operations Daniel Kerr said.

'We're also very conscious about technology. We've Apple TV 3s in all the rooms and Wiis and Xboxes [upon request]. We've also got an e-guest directory, which means that you can just look up and talk to our staff at any time - you just hit a button and your request will be sent straight to our operations team.'
