Step One - Steps (Rock Records/Jive) This album comes from a group that once unashamedly admitted it was a manufactured, commercial pop commodity and that Abba was fab. So, let's not get too serious here.

Step One is the debut release by the latest British teen pop sensation Steps, which has since last November tucked two Top Ten hits - 5,6,7,8 and Last Thing On My Mind - safely under its belt.

The quartet has all it takes to become a success in a market that is dominated by other girl and boy bands, notably the Spice Girls and Boyzone.

Claire Richards, Lisa Scott-Lee, Faye Tozer Ian Watkins and Lee Latchford-Evans all sing, dance, look great on MTV and their music is catchy.

Musically, apart from 5,6,7,8, which is a 'yee-ha' country western dance number, other tracks including Last Thing On my Mind, Stay With Me and One For Sorrow all sound Abba-esque. The album (which comes with a VCD) is evenly divided into dance tracks and ballads.

The good news for their fans is this is only Step One. No doubt also in the pipeline are Step Two, Step Three . . . well, you get the idea.
