COOKING is great. Sampling the results is even better! But before we turn our kitchens into bakeries - and ourselves into over-sized Pacmans - here are some top tips on keeping our waistlines from busting out, and on staying healthy over the next two weeks.

According to Spencer Tong Tai-yin, dietitian of the Hong Kong Council of Early Childhood Education & Services, having regular meals is of vital importance.

He advises: 'Students might stay in bed a little longer and, as a result, may combine their [breakfast with lunch] and have one meal instead. It is far better to space out the three meals so the time in between each is roughly the same.'

This is important because irregular meals can disrupt our digestive system as well as spoiling our appetite.

Eating more fruit is also a good idea - especially as we have now entered the flu season.
