Reviewed: July 8

The first big round of applause on the night went not to Cirque Eloize, a compact Canadian acrobatic act that the government has taken three years and $1.1 million to bring here, but the announcement that Hong Kong had won the right to host the 2008 Olympic equestrian events. Given that this was the opening programme of this year's International Arts Carnival and that at least a third of the audience were children aged 12 or below, you could almost hear the collective, 'Huh?'

But we clapped at this blatant piece of propaganda, anyway. Who are we to tell the authorities that a children's festival show may not be the most appropriate occasion to talk about a sport not many care or know about?
