Popular theatre actor/comedian Jim Chim Sui-man and stage director Edward Lam Yick-wah  continue their exploration  of the collective psyche of this city in their latest collaboration, this time satirising the way Hong Kong people 'romance'.
Love is a complex  emotion that has always inspired artists.  In Hong Kong, however, it is a simple  matter of the wallet, Chim and Lam propose. Love, as they see it, is about  getting the  upper hand in an economic relationship. People learn about it from their equally misinformed parents and soap operas.   It is a cynical point of view, yet  one  that holds some  truth.
The two-hour show, made up of individual acts, asks what love means to Hongkongers. In one sketch, a domineering mother  sells her daughters off to the highest bidders like commodities. Another depicts an emotionally inane pair whose 'love' is built entirely on immaturity and material rewards. 
The show also looks at love as a form of deception, loneliness, vanity and selfishness - 'Have you ever considered my feelings?' is the theme of one act - and ends with a modern day and cynical version of the Little Mermaid fairy tale.
He is Kong Girl, She is Kong Boy is more a satire of an attitude shared by local men and women today than stereotypes of the inadequate/inarticulate Hong Kong male and their  greedy female counterparts. 
Lam  kept the show tight while Chim, who also co-directs, was memorable in his roles as the heartless mother and a flamboyant image consultant. He is supported by four promising young PIP Theatre actors - Tyson Chak hoi-tai, Yeung Sze-man, Tang Chi-kin and German Cheung. The set designed by Chan Yau-wing is functional   and aesthetically pleasing.
