Last November, prominent Chinese artist Wu Guanzhong donated 33 of his paintings, valued at an estimated HK$150 million, to the Hong Kong Museum of Art. Next week, 51 of his works, including 14 previous donations and four purchases by the museum, will go on display in the exhibition Lofty Integrity: Donation of Works by Wu Guanzhong. Some personal items, such as letters and one of the master's blotting sheets will also be on show.

All of which aim to throw light not only on Wu's artistic development over the decades but also his role as one of the greatest living Chinese painters and art educators today, says the exhibition curator Szeto Yuen-kit.

'This exhibition sets out not only to showcase [Wu's] art but also his passion and how he has always wanted to share [both] with the masses,' Szeto says.

Wu, who fuses both Chinese and Western techniques and aesthetics, became the first living Chinese artist to have his works exhibited at the British Museum in 1992.

The friendship between Wu, now 91, and the Hong Kong Museum of Art dates back to the early 1990s.
