We recently previewed the NGO’s night of drinking in a good cause – in this instance raising money to fulfil the wishes of children with special needs. They aimed to raise HK$100,000 from participating bars donating part of a night’s profits to the cause and through corporate sponsorship. I’m glad to report they have met their target. They also appeared to have started a minor bandwagon.

Now the team at Dim Sum and Then Some have joined forces with the Hong Kong Cancer Fund to promote a night of drinking in the cause of raising awareness of the importance of the early detection of breast cancer.

They’ve asked 12 bars to create special pink cocktails to be sold from October 24-31, with a percentage of the proceeds of each cocktail being donated to CancerFund Pink Revolution.

Venues participating in Drink for Pink include: Aberdeen Street Social, Chachawan, Duddell’s, Fatty Crab, Fish & Meat, Ham & Sherry, Honi Honi, The Envoy, The Woods, Yardbird and 208.

The Wine Institute of California is hosting a charity wine tasting on December 4th at the Conrad Hotel’s Brasserie on the 8th.  Tickets, which must be bought in advance for the event are HK$100 per person and available through Cityline.

The institute is raising money for the charity Feeding Hong Kong. For enquiries call: 2366 3089.

“Hello Kitty, I’m a moron!”

It’s coming up for the 40th anniversary of the world’s most meaningless branding exercise, Hello Kitty.

I was wondering what might be an appropriate drink to celebrate the birthday of the cat with no mouth. There are several cocktails named for the cartoon kitten, all of them pretty vile sounding.

Then it struck me. If you’re of drinking age and you are infantilised enough to want to celebrate this date with a cocktail, you are probably too stupid to be trusted with alcohol in the first place.
