Beauty buzz

Everybody Loves the Sunshine, according to singer Roy Ayers. But nobody likes the damage or ageing effect it has on skin. Whatever your skin type or level of sensitivity there's a protective cream to help you maintain that sun-kissed glow.

Giorgio Armani's Luminessence Bright UV Protecting Fluid SPF 50 PA +++ (HK$450/30ml) is a light-reflecting block that not only protects skin from the sun but also brightens and tones. The cream has a lighter texture than that which usually comes with a high SPF (sun-protection factor) product and features nylon powder for a matt finish. Mint and jasmine extracts soothe the skin while corn extract and amino acids combat ageing.

Guerlain's Terracotta Sun Moisturiser (HK$370/110ml), complete with UVA and UVB filters, comes in two versions - Blondes (SPF30) and Brunettes (SPF15). The tiare flower-scented product is also said to protect the skin from "environmental aggressors". A detox complex is designed to give skin a natural glow and there's a "tan booster" complex that stimulates the production of melanin, the pigment that darkens skin.

Jill Stuart's Relax Aqua Chiffon Protector SPF50+/ PA+++ (HK$240/60ml) is a gel-like lotion that promises translucent coverage without a white powdery finish, thanks to so-called aquary polymers. Moisturising ingredients such as rose honey, orange honey and lavender honey work together with anti-inflammatory loquat extract to hydrate and restore sun-exposed skin. The lotion comes with a pleasant white floral bouquet fragrance.

Sulwhasoo's Renodigm EX Dual Care Cream TPF40, SPF30, PA++ (HK$1,070/50ml) promises to work as a sunscreen and an anti-ageing agent. Seoul National University has found that heat - besides sunlight - is a culprit in accelerating ageing of the skin, and has worked with the Korean brand to derive the TPF (thermal-protection factor), which measures a product's ability to block heat energy. To that end, four herbal medicines - namely Cypress Polysaccharide, Prunus Mume, Oldenlandia Diffusa and Red Ginseng Saponin - are used in this cream to cool, soothe and promote blood circulation.
