Sun, sea and sand - what's not to love? The quintessential summer holiday should be a time for absolute, all round relaxation. Unfortunately, taking your eye off the sunscreen ball can leave you a little hot under the collar, not to mention elsewhere. Here are a few after-sun lotions to help soothe and revitalise over-exposed skin.

Academie's Body Restorative Milk (HK$575/150ml) is said to not only prevent peeling but also make your tan last longer. Its soothing formula reduces redness and calms irritation. Storing in the fridge before use optimises the cooling effects. The Bronzécran collection also features a rich Face Restorative Cream (HK$550/50ml).

Coola's ER+ Radical Recovery After-Sun Lotion (HK$520/180ml) "replenishes, renews and moisturises", courtesy of a range of organic ingredients. Agave, for instance, is a moisture-binding plant that offers sunburnt skin relief and stimulates collagen synthesis. Other ingredients include cooling and cell-regenerating aloe vera, anti-inflammatory lavender oil and antioxidant sunflower oil.

Melvita's Witch Hazel Floral Water (HK$280/200ml) is a certified-organic product whose main ingredient, witch hazel - endorsed by native American witch doctors for treating inflammation - has soothing and invigorating properties. The product is best used for dry skin and is known to counteract redness and itching. It is also said to bring back radiance to dull skin.

Boots' Soltan Aftersun Soothing Gel with Aloe Vera (HK$79/200ml) is a gentle, cooling product with moisturising properties. The lightweight gel is said to counteract sunburn while hydrating and preventing skin from peeling. As with many Boots products, it's great value for money, although the strong scent may put some people off.
