After scrapping all border restrictions to welcome visitors in January, Macau has now been named the five-star hotel capital of the world according to Forbes Travel Guide’s 2023 Star Awards, with 22 hotels making the judges’ top rating.

Previously, for four consecutive years, the title belonged to London ‒ now ranked below Macau with 21 five-star rated hotels. Meanwhile just eight Hong Kong hotels earned the top rating (according to the discerning, independent Forbes rating system – not the stars everyone else goes by).

So if you want to experience the best of the best in the luxury hotel capital of the world, it’s time to hop a ferry to Macau. So where should you stay? At one of these five headline-making new properties, that’s where

The hotel takes on an “East meets West” concept, and treats guests to feast their eyes on its European-inspired decor and Chinese motifs. What’s so amazing about this hotel is the fact it also lets local designers showcase their creativity through a home-grown, brands-only boutique called Made In Macau.

5. The Karl Lagerfeld
