A 5.1-magnitude earthquake rocked the border region between Liaoyang and Shenyang provinces in northeast China on Wednesday, the China Earthquake Networks Centre said.
The quake struck about 12.20pm between Dengta city and the Sujiatun district of Shenyang, Liaoning’s provincial capital – at a depth of some 7 kilometres.
The epicentre of the quake was located in Liutiaozhai township in the city of Dengta.
Cracks appeared in houses and toppled chimney stacks in villages surrounding Dengta but there were no reports of any casualties or buildings collapsing in Dengta or Sujiatun.
Residents in Shenyang said the quake tremor lasted around 20 seconds and the cities of Liaoyang, Jinzhou, Panjin and Chaoyang also felt the tremor.
Liutiaozhai was hit by a 3.4-magnitude earthquake last year.
